Viva Las Vegas!

Okay so I am way too busy to be writing this right now, but I had such an awesome time in Vegas this weekend I want to write while it is still fresh in my mind.

BEFORE YOU GO: There is an app called myVegas that allows you to play free slots to get "free" things in Vegas. The app is available on the app store or Facebook. You have to be very careful with this though and read all the fine print. Every single deal is buy one, get one even if it doesn't sound it. It takes a while to get enough points but if they are things you would do while in Vegas anyway its worth it and also the game is kinda fun. Here is the link to the Facebook version: Play myVegas.

LENGTH OF STAY:Our stay was from Friday night until Sunday afternoon and about a day longer would have been awesome. I would say a long weekend is best. But for some who party a little harder two days may be more than enough :)

ACCOMMODATION: The thing about Vegas is its resorts are all financially based around gambling. So more often than not you can get REALLY cheap rooms. Check out my post on hotels: http://travelforfreeee.blogspot.com/2014/02/hotelscom.html.

TRANSPORTATION: Although it can be a bit more expensive, it really is worth it to stay on the strip so you don't need to drive anywhere.

SITE SEEING: There are so many things to do in Vegas it is pretty overwhelming. We spent a day just doing random free things and it was great.

Off the Strip
Gold and Silver Pawn: Yes, like from the show Pawn Stars. It was pretty cool to see the "set" of the show which is an actual store. Although the men from the show weren't there, they do often work in the store and if you are in the show at the time of filming you may be on TV.
Fremont Street: Although there isnt loads to do on Fremont street, if you are into Pawn Stars there are a lot of shops with people that have been featured on the show. One of the coolest sports memorabilia stores is located by the parking lot on Fremont Street AND the owner is an SF Giants fan which makes it that much cooler.
Circus Circus: At the Circus Circus hotel there are some awesome acts you can see abdolutely free. We were able to see the trapeze show and it was pretty freakin' cool. Shows run all day starting at 11am List of Circus Circus Acts
Vegas Sign: Although we werent able to make it to the famous Vegas sign here is the address so you can! 3150 Paradise Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89109
If you get the chance to visit, comment below with a picture and I will feature you on my blog!
On the Strip
3 for 57: Although we didn't have time for this, there is a deal that allows you to visit three attractions for 57 bucks. The list includes the Secret Garden, the Bodies exhibit and a few others. The pass is available at most hotels. Here is a list of attractions: 3 for 57 Attractions
The Flamingo: If you know me at all you know I am obsessed with flamingos. The Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo has birds out all the time and they are soooo pretty. It is free to just walk in any time of the day and see the area. Flamingo Habitat Website
Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden: My absolute favorite thing all weekend was the Secret Garden.
Secret Garden Website. This is an area at the Mirage Resort that is a hidden gem! It costs about 20 bucks for general admission or 17 for a resort guest but it is worth it! You can go all day or pop in and out. Although the areas for the animals is a little smaller than I would hope, speaking to the docents and trainers the animals are incredibly well cared for. The Garden is basically a very intimate version of a zoo. The dolphins were so close we could have touched them (but you aren't allowed) and the trainers spent loads of time talking to us. They also have reasonably priced food that you can sit and eat while watching the dolphins play. Also, totally cool and amazing is that Siegfried visits the garden quite regularly. Here is a picture of us with him:

He looks at bit grumpy but he was really nice and told us all about the lions and tigers.

FOOD: Food in Vegas is what will make you poor. The buffets can be very pricey so shop around (the one at the Mirage is ridiculous, but the one at Circus Circus seemed reasonable). Pack food to take with you and/or hit up places like Denny's and Subway. We ate a lot of junk while we were there but saved for one nice meal when we were there. On a more recent trip we purchased the Caesar's 24 hour buffet pass and it was totally worth it. Check it out here!

PENNY MACHINES: I ended up getting a couple pennies while I was in Sin City. The Mirage had a few (the Secret Garden) and so did Fremont Street. Here is the complete list of Penny Machines in Nevada: http://www.pennycollector.com/Locations.aspx?area=68
