We got off the plane late Friday night, dropped our bags off at the airport and we went straight to find some tacos. We found the Taco Stand and it did not disappoint.
Miles had the Mar y Tierra fries (surf and turf) while I opted for a selection of tacos. A chicken taco and a spicy shrimp. Their chips were traditional yet delicious and the sauce bar had the classic mild through hot salsa with a delicious chipotle sauce and a cilantro sauce (I don't care for cilantro so I opted to skip that one). The food is all made to order so it could take a while but the place is comfy and has fun music so the time passes quickly.
The next morning we grabbed a delicious coffee each at the coffee shop attached to our hotel, Coava Coffee Roasters. I had a delicious vanilla latte made with house-made vanilla.
Then it was off to the zoo! Mid morning we treated ourselves to some delicious Sriracha Ranch Chicken Strips with Asian Fries. Spicy but delicious. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo. The food stand, Hua Mei Cafe has underwhelming reviews on yelp but we weren't disappointed.
After the zoo we were looking for a sweet snack and a drink. Near our hotel we found a lovely place called the Local Eatery and Drinking Hole. Miles had the Lagunitas Daytime IPA while I opted for the Turquoise Barn Apple Peach Passion Cider. The cider was VERY peachy but tasty nonetheless.
The highlight of this place are the desserts. I chose the Chocolate Brownie (Gluten Free) with ice cream and Miles chose the Churro Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich.

The main reason for the trip was to go to the Giants game against the Padres. So, Saturday afternoon we headed to Petco Park for some all-American baseball and you guessed it, more food! I love hot dogs but I always have a hard time finding hot dogs at baseball parks that don't have beef. I was delighted to find this all pork hot dog at Carnitas Snack Shack. An all pork dog, wrapped in bacon, topped with carnitas, pico de gallo and a delicious sauce. I have had A LOT of hot dogs in my time and this one was absolutely the best.
Sunday morning began with a delicious brunch at Garage Kitchen and Bar. We searched Yelp for a place that had both the things we were craving- eggs benedict and chilaquiles. We've loved chilaquiles since we first tried them on our trip to Cabo in 2015 but they are hard to find. Garage did not disappoint. We shared both plus had a cup of coffee each. The waitresses were all super friendly and the restaurant had a super fun vibe.
After brunch we hit the pool but then still had a couple hours before our flight. We figured why not go back to The Local Eatery and Drinking Hole for a drink. This time we tried the Mother Earth Cali Creamin' On Nitro and the Ace Space Bloody Orange Cider. Oh my were they delicious! The cider was almost like a really yum mimosa.
We watched the game for a while but until were temped by a snack. We tried the Pretzel Bites with Beer Cheese. The perfect game time snack to share.
We had an absolutely fabulous time in San Diego and can't wait to go back. The question will be- do we go back to the food places we loved or try new places? Only time will tell.
