What is this Movie Pass thing you keep talking about?

Update: 12/2019
After a lot of ups and downs the Movie Pass service has been suspended. It was awesome while it lasted!

If you've spoken more than five words to me in the past month we have probably talked about Movie Pass. It's our new obsession. It combines my affinity for all things cheap, with Miles' lust for Superhero movies and my father's sick obsession with Reddit (more on this later) in one tiny little red plastic wonder card. So here are the top questions I've been asked about Movie Pass followed by the top five reasons I love it.

What the heck is it?
Movie Pass is a membership service that currently costs $9.95/ month (or $6.95/ month if you pay for a year up front). It allow you to see unlimited movies at practically any theater, one per day.

That can't be true, does it really work? How does it work?
YES IT WORKS. We have seen 5 movies this month all for a total of $9.95.  Movie Pass sends you a debit card. When you arrive at the theater you check in on your phone app. This activities the card so you can purchase your ticket. Only one ticket may be purchased per card/ per day. Tickets can be bought any time, day of the showing, but not in advance.

But it's super uncool to cheat local theaters out of money like that, right?
This is one of the best parts! Movie Pass is a debit card, not a rewards card. The theater gets the full ticket price paid from Movie Pass. We have been to the movies way more this month than ever before and we bought more concessions than normal because our ticket cost was close to nothing. If anything, the movie theater is making more than normal!

Okay so that clearly isn't a good business model, whats the scam?
My dad has spent A LOT of time on Reddit reading feeds and learning more about Movie Pass. As far as we have figured out, the company is trying to make this the movie going norm of the future. Then, hopefully, movie theaters will give them a small cut of concessions to be a featured theater (we think?). Reddit is where we get most of our movie pass info from. You can check that page out here.

Reasons I Love my Movie Pass:
1. It's so inexpensive! It is such a steal to go to the movies.
2. It is easy to use. The app is simple and user friendly.
3. The theaters are still making the full ticket cost.
4. Even when the movie sucks you don't feel that bummed, it was cheap!
5. It is a great excuse to get out of the house and treat yourself on a regular basis.

I know some people haven't had the same great experience with Movie Pass as we have. There have been complaints that the app didn't work (it crashed this weekend for a short time) or that their cards took a while to process. However, all of our experiences have been great! Comment below if you have a Movie Pass and tell us what you think!

P.S. No, Movie Pass did not pay me to endorse their product I'm just super excited about it!
